I hit my foot on a piece of wood on my bed and my foot is bruised and very swollen. it hurts a little to move it. what could be happening?

Strain or bruise: If you hit it hard enough, you may have strained/sprained something, may have a very nasty bruise - or if you did a really good job with it, you may have fractured something. If you are really worried, and can't move it at all, i would see a doctor. If you can still move it and put weight on it, you can try ice, ibuprofen, elevating it, and wrapping it for a few days. X-rays needed: Bruising and swelling can occur without fracture, but warrants an x-ray. Such injuries should be immobilized and treated at once. This includes getting the swelling under control.
