Hernia: If you are otherwise well and the pain is focal, on going, or a lump is present then hernia. If you are also fever, nausea, vomiting, feeling poorly then get in to er as you may have appendicitis. Take friend with you. Be well.

Hernia: If you notice a bulge if could be a hernia. This occurs when there is a defect in the abdominal wall and stuff inside the belly slides in and out. It could also be a muscle strain which would be helped by NSAIDs but would not cause the gas and bloating. The back ache can sometimes be caused by compensation. See your primary doc and they should be able to figure it out based on physical exam.
