Classic heel pain: It sounds like a classic case of plantar fasciitis. The plantar fascia is a band of soft tissue that acts as a sort of ligament to connect the heel with the forefoot. It attaches to the heel bone. This is where it usually becomes sore. The inflamed tissue tightens after rest and stretches and strains when you first get up. There may or may not be a spur. Treatment=relieving the inflammation.
