Both harmful: Both will age the skin and put you at higher risk of skin cancer. You should wear sunscreen whenever in the sun and avoid tanning booths. Your skin will thank you.

Different types rays: It is hard to compare sunlight to the light you receive from a tanning salon since sunlight has both ultraviolet light a and b. Tanning salons only release ultraviolet light a. Ultraviolet light a is more dangerous since it is more deeply penetrating.
