Several things: Could be: 1. Narrowing at level of nostrils 2. Narrowing at level there the sidewalls of the nose meets the cartilage in the middle (septum) 3. Narrowing where septum meets turbinates (structure on the sidewalls of the inside of the nose.

What else?: Did you get any info about the sinus pressure or headache? Ct sinus ordered? Any treatment? Small nostril openings may not explain all of your symptoms.

CAT scan: The size of your nostril has nothing to do with the development of rhino-sinusitis. The cause of sinus infection whether viral or bacterial is blockage of the lateral wall of the nose. If the ENT doctor did not order a cat scan of the paranasal sinuses, he may doubt that you have sinus inflammation. The cause of the small opening may be a severely deviated nasal septum. Top swelling of what?

Sinus pain/pressure: The openings for drainage from the sinuses r quite small (see image). Inflammation from infxn or allergies can further reduce size of these passages or even block them completely. If decongestants (sudafed, xxx-d) don't work well enough, surgery may b needed to widen the passages. Ent surgeons do that kind of surgery. Discuss with your ENT if surgery is necessary.
