Migraine for a week?: Generally, you want to take a triptan for migraines asap at onset of migraine. Having a migraine for a week is quite odd. I personally prefer newer triptans with longer 1/2 lives like frova, relpax, (eletriptan) or zomig....I also prefer treximet over just plain imitrix. If his blood pressure is controlled and does not have any present heart disease, okay to try. Expect warm pressure around head ; neck.

Imitrex (sumatriptan): His BP needs to under control. Pain itself sometimes can increase bp. If BP is getting better, ok to use imitrex (sumatriptan). One contraindication of Imitrex (sumatriptan) is uncontrolled blood pressure.
