Call your dentist: You may have inadvertently cut your gum with your nail, and seeing that mark. Your dentist can best advise you since s/he knows your medical and dental history. They can also advise you what to use/rinse to help relieve the burning sensation. Saline gargles often help, and if a salve is needed, they would have to prescribe it, while it's healing, and can tell you what to take for gum pain.

Salt water rinse: Initially i would use warm salt water rinses 2 or more times a day. The white may be a sign of healing but if it is not getting better see a dentist to make sure it is not infected and require an antibiotic.

Salt water but: I would take some salt water, but don't swish with it. Use a q-tip to tab it on the spot and gently massage with your finger. It is persists possibly orajel ointment may help or you should see a dentist.
