Please provide some do's and don'ts on managing a fever.

Ignore: Alternate tylenol (acetaminophen) with advil every 4 hours and push fluids, gatorade/pedialyte.

Ignore: Always document how high the fever is and when you administered any medications for reference.

Ignore: Always treat a fever in a child with a history of seizures. Not necessrily others unless uncomfortable.

Do: Do place cool packs to the armpits and groin.

Ignore: Do take rest. Drink lots of fluid and take Vitamin C.

Ignore: Have a reliable digitial thermomete. Tylenol (acetaminophen) for temp greater than 100. Lots of cool fluids.

Ignore: Fever is your friend. It's your immune system fighting for you, so, if mild or moderate, skip meds.

Ignore: A slight fever can actually help kill bacteria and viruses.

Ignore: Do take medications as prescribed. Don't take them too soon if your fever does not go away.

Ignore: Alternate Tylenol (acetaminophen) with an NSAID like ibuprofen or naproxen, if tolerated, to help lower fevers.

Ignore: Fever is not dangerous per se, but rather a sign of infection. Treat the fever but find the cause!

Ignore: Make certain you eat healthy while febrile. The old "Starve a fever" adage is dangerous.

Ignore: Tylenol (acetaminophen) combined with Ibuprofen can be significantly more effective in reducing fever.

Ignore: Fever with shortness of breath require evaluation.
