TMJ: Intermittent pain around the ear can be caused by tmj. If it hurts while chewing or eating, than tha is very likely. Treatment should be combined with continued antiinflammatory medications and a strict soft diet for several weeks to achieve the best results. If you are grinding your teeth at night, a bite block from your dentist may also be necessary.

TMJ: Your pain might be related to several different factors. Grinding or clenching your teeth, day or night , could cause muscle spasm. Avoiding chewing gum, using moist heat and otc pain meds can provide relief. It could also be caused by a problem in your neck. Posture issues such as working at a computer a lot can cause neck and shoulder muscle spasms causing trigger points. See a dentist or pt.
