Not normal: The symptoms you describe are not normal, and should be evaluated by your doctor or dentist. Infection is a cause, but there are also oral cancers or precancerous lesions that could be caused by the cigarette smoking. Sometimes it's just an injury. Be well.

More worried: I'd be more worried about oral cancer if you smoke. Have "ulcer" examined by dentist when it is most evident. If you have HIV concerns discuss this with dentist when "ulcer" examined.
