A member asked:

My son got diabetes ketoacidtosis, how to treat?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fluids, insulin: Some specialty centers can manage mild DKA as an outpatient with IV fluids and insulin. Most kids require hospitalization and closer observation during fluid therapy and Insulin treatment. Many kids go into DKA during an illness or other systemic stress that destabilizes their control so a thorough evaluation for a triggering factor is important.
