A 40-year-old member asked:

i found out that's a way that doctors remove styes, but what do they actually do, what do you recommend?

Styes: are infected eyelid glands. They are painful and swollen. Often they will resolve with the use of hot soaks four times per day for a week. If this does not work, then the stye can be opened and drained. This can be done in the ophthalmologist's office under local anesthesia.

I broke my right collarbone 3 months ago. Should I remove the plate or not, and if yes, when. ?

Plate is unusual: The clavicle is the most common fractured bone in the body. Vast majority of time it requires a sling, immobilizing shoulder, pain control, then some physical therapy. If a plate is needed, probably needs to be there at least six months, but that is orthopedic (which I am not) assessment who did the surgery.

I wouldn't: Since it isn't emergent, i would save any procedure until infection free. Sometimes you don't have a choice...But in this case, waiting a week or two may be helpful.
