See your dentist: Severe tooth pain is no fun and can be very debilitating. Call a dentist asap to see if they can see you as an emergency exam. They will be able to diagnose the cause and recommend the correct form of treatment. Unfortunately, analgesics, even of prescription form won't help much if you have an infected tooth. Antibiotics from your dentist will calm it down until proper treatment can be done.

Infection: You're trying to cure an infection by taking a pain killer...Won't work. Please call dentist for a cure.

Severe toothache: Until you get to a dentist for definitive treatment, from what you describe, probably nothing will help. I have personally been there. Sometimes cold will temporarily soothe a "hot" tooth. See a dentist asap!
