HSV -1: Herpes simplex virus (HSV) can be type-1 (above the wist) or type -2 (below the waist). The former presents as coldsores or mouth ulcerations. The latter as genital herpes or sores - penile or vulvar. These are passed from person to person and are permanent, but can be treated if active or suppressed - so as not to pass them on to a partner. Treatment is with forms of acyclovir.
