Minimal: The duration of the surgery depends on the skill and experience of your surgeon, the size and complexity of your hernia, but commonly less than an hour. After surgery, you are only at bedrest until you are good and awake from the anesthesia. You will be up and walking the day of surgery. You will be restricted on your activity for 4 to 6 weeks after surgery - depending on your surgeons instruction.

Lap hernia surgery: This can last from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the type of hernia and how many are present we do not put people on bed rest and allow people to walk immediately after surgery.
