It is stage-4: Some patients with colon cancer would survive their advanced cancer, even if it is stage-4 provided it is resected completely and the patient has been given adequate chemotherapy. There is about 20% survival at 5 years, many such patients are cured of their disease.

Tough question: If a colon cancer has spread to a distant organ, that would make his disease a stage iv. He needs to be seen by a skilled team, including surgeon and oncologist. I'm not about to discuss survival rates without knowing the full details of his disease process. Good luck to you and your son, and keep in close contact with your physicians.

Good Answers: In addition to whatever you choose to do traditionally, i would suggest seeing an acupuncturist/chinese medicine physician as well. I have heard of many cases where this modality helped resolve a cancer issue. Even in stage 4 there is hope for recovery. He is young and strong.

Why do you ask?: First, it's extremely uncommon for a 17 year old to have ordinary colon cancer unless there's a pre-existing multiple-polyps syndrome. Second, colon cancer almost never spreads to the spleen. Something is not right here. You need to find out exactly what's happening before you make any plans. I hope you get this solved. Best wishes.
