Empty sella: This is an important finding, this is usually a finding upon imaging of the brain. It is important in that it can find the cause of several conditions called the empty sella syndorme, although sometimes there are no symptoms.

Usually not: An "empty sella" is a bit of a misnomer as the sella is not really empty. The sella is where the pituitary gland sits and sometimes the covering of the sella is lacking in patients permitting spinal fluid to enter. The fluid can push the pituitary gland around (and sometimes compress it) but it is rare that this causes any pituitary problems.
