Bacteria: Semen cultures check for bacterial infections in the prostate and seminal vesicles. Ureaplasm is a tough bug to culture and is often in the urethra incidentally.

Limited: In my experience and opinion, there is little value to culturing semen. Most cases of prostatitis are diagnosed by history and physical examination. As a urologist, I have not utilized a semen culture for any purpose in 20 years.
