A member asked:

How do you check males for a ureaplasma infection? my wife keeps getting them and i think it could be from me. but my urine is always clear?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Culture or PCR assay: Ureaplasma (u) species are frequently detected in the lower urogenital tracts of healthy adults: 40-80% of asymptomatic and sexually active women and somewhat lower rates in males. Only a subgroup of adults who are colonized in the lower urogenital tract develop symptomatic illness from these organisms. (u) can be detected by culture but requires specialized media and techniques or pcr assays.
