Possibilities....: You may be describing costochondritis. This is inflammation of the cartilage of the chest wall and is typically painful to touch. This would not be visible on a chest x-ray. This can be diagnosed by your family doctor. Treatment is usually prescribing anti-inflammatory agents until symptoms subside. So, see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment. This can improve fairly quickly with treatment.
