Pleurisy: A condition called pleuritis or pleurisy is inflammation of the pleura (lining between the lung and the chest wall). This pain can be more one-sided and not seen on chest x-ray. It can be quite painful and worse with taking deep breaths as the lining rubs together. This can follow a respiratory infection. Anti-inflammatory medication can help relieve the pain, but sometimes it takes a while.
