Nothing to do now: There is nothing to be done to ensure an outie becomes an innie. Outies can just happen or may run in the family. Outies usually become innies on their own, but the pediatrician will check at each of the many check-up visits to see if there is anything to worry about. If there is still an outie by age 2 years, the pediatric surgeon or plastic surgeon can "ensure an innie belly button".
