Variety of reasons: There are differing bacteria present in a mouth with teeth versus a mouth without teeth. The teeth allow for bacteria that live in a less oxygenated environment. As a transition is occurring it is possible to change the balance within the whole system . However, children touch everything and are constantly putting fingers into their mouth introducing new bacteria to the system.

Loose stools: One of the reason posited for diarrhea during teething is that increase in salivary flow literally waters down the stool. Another is the change in resident flora that occurs with teething. $ is a bit young for a boy to begin teething, but not unheard of. Keep your child hydrated. Talk to your Pediatrician and perhaps a pediatric dental specialist, a Pedodontist.
