A member asked:

Can lidocaine cream or ointment help back pain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Patch is better: Lidocaine cream or ointment is most effective on small cuts or mucous membranes, as it isn't absorbed well through the skin. A better option for back pain is the Lidoderm patch 5%, which is designed for continuous absorption through the skin to provide relief of back pain. This is available by prescription only; see your physician. Exercise and physical therapy may help too.
