1 mg: Propecia (finasteride) is prescribed as a dose of 1 mg daily and may take months to see results. Since it interferes with testosterone effects, it can cause erectile dysfunction or decrease in libido. It also may cause hair loss in other parts of the body and can affect the psa test men take to be screened for prostate cancer. In my patients who took it for years, it has been well tolerated and did help.
