Rule out fungus: The throat should be cultured for fungus. There are a number of fungi that co-habitate with normal bacterial flora in the throat. Usually, this follows taking an antibiotic or stress can induce the multiplication of these organisms that are present in small amounts in most normal throats. If the culture is positive for fungi, appropriate anti-fungal gargles will resolve this problem.
