"should ask??????": Depends on who you are and why you are asking. For the most part, people with established drug problems will be in denial of them, and will respond defensively or even angrily to any questions. I always recommend that family/loved ones express their love and concern for the person, but not get into confrontation unless they know what they are doing and are working with a professional on it.

Express Concern: First, there is little you can do that is effective unless the communications are about what you see and what you feel. Expressing concern and being nonjudgmental is a good start. Having everyone in the family or social circle saying the same message is vital. If the addict, who is sick with the disease of addiction, chooses to ignore then one cannot control or change that decision. Al-anon!
