A member asked:

Help please? what is the likely cause of someone who has both borderline personality disorder and complex post-traumatic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PTSD and Borderline: The likely cause is trauma--repeated traumatization usually at an early age of development. The kinds of trauma may be varied, and usually include abuse (sexual, physical, emotional), severe loss and/or abandonment. Counseling can help to identify what may have contributed to these, but more importantly, can help someone overcome them.
