Body fat percentage: Body fat percentage can be estimated by a number of methods. The skin caliper method uses skin fold measurements to calculate fat percentage. Newer weight scales can determine fat percentage by use body impedance measurement. Body fat includes essential fat and storage fat. Essential body fat is the minimum required to maintain hormonal function. In men it is 3 - 5% and women 8 - 12%.
