See md: Acl tears in a young athlete associated w/ a meniscus( cartilage) tear almost always require surgery. The meniscus tear can cause pain, locking and swelling and the acl- deficient knee can result in instability and further knee( cartilage) damage... If possible see an md w/ referral to an orthopedic surgeon who is an experienced arthroscopist. Best of luck!
