A nerve disorder: Arachnoiditis refers to inflammation of the arachnoid membrane-a thin membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It occurs from exposure to certain chemicals or infection of the central nervous system. Symptoms include pain, numbness, tingling, bowel, bladder or sexual dysfunction. It most often affects the nerve to the legs. There is no know cure but pain can be managed.
