A member asked:

What is the cause for painful and recurring muscle spasms in the hand?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Muscle spasms: Painful muscle spasms can be either a cramp, or what is called a dystonia. Focal cramps are often from overuse, like too much keyboard use, or holding the hand in a fixed position for a long time. Causes of focal cramps can be either medical or neurological in nature. Evaluation of the muscle involved, and the type of pain can help to figure out the cause.
