Neurologic: This could be carpal tunnel syndrome where a nerve is being pinched in the wrist, or something higher up in the shoulder or in the neck, such as a disc. It would be hard to know without a proper exam.

Cervical disk: When the pain and numbness radiates down thei entire arm a cervical disk problem must be ruled out first. Treatment is usually conservative at first and most patients get better without surgery. If permanent numbness or weakness develop surgery may be necessary.
