As the name suggests: Attention deficit diorder...Poor attention/focus, short attention span, easy distractability, fidgitty, thus often adversely affects academic performance. Some have hyperactivities (adhd) and thus categorized in the adhd group vs the add which is the inattentive group. So, if you/your teens have concerning symptoms, consult your doc for eval and possible treatment. Good luck.
