Paronychia: Sometimes people get little infections around the fingernail called paronychia. They're caused by picking a hangnail or biting the nails or messing too much with the cuticle (getting a pedicure). Often these are bacterial and you can develop little pus pockets that need to be drained. If you don't have pus, your doctor will recommend frequent warm soaks and possibly antibiotics.

Dyshidrosis: Most "pus pockets" on fingers are actually little blisters that look like pustules because the skin is so thick. The sweat glands are blocked, causing blisters which often itch like crazy. Your dermatologist can prescribe a cream or foam for this, or an oral medication may be necessary.
