Several options: Vaseline is not a bad choice, but it basically just provides a barrier. Can also consider zinc oxide or an otc Hydrocortisone cream. Generally things will improve within a little time after the runny, stuffy nose resolves. Consider also a nasal decongestant to reduce the need to blow and wipe your nose.
