Probably Can: Ask you dr. About getting the shingles "shot:" as it is considered a preventive measure for your age. Also need to have your immune status checked. Anti-viral medication taken early in the course can shorten the course and possibly reduce some of the symptoms and complications.

Possible: But very unlikely. Perhaps one of the diagnoses is not correct. Any other symptoms? You may need to be checked for some underlying disease which causes impaired immunity. Getting shingles exposes your immunity to more virus than the zostavax vaccine. The vaccine is a live, attenuated virus similar to hzv virus
