Many causes: There are many causes of back pain including muscular strain, sprain of ligaments, arthritis of facet joints, herniated and degenerated discs. Radiating pain in legs occurs when nerves in the back are pinched . If pain is in hip area then hip joint also needs to be examined and possibly x rayed.
