Cold symptoms: Colds as we call them are caused by a variety of viral infections. Most of them cause irritation of the linings of the nose and that irritation causes sneezing (a mechanism the body has to try to get rid of nasal irritants.) the virus is in the body well before you feel it. The first symptom may be a sneeze, which means the virus is causing enough irritation for the body to try to get rid of it.
