Not necessarily: Miscarriages may occur spontaneously where tissue is passed without medication or surgery to help. A D&C may be needed after the diagnosis of miscarriage has been made. In either case PID is not often seen. If may be seen if there was an infection or std present prior to or in early pregnancy.
