Why does keeping the same muscle mass become harder as we age?

Hormone decline: Androgens (especially testosterone) are responsible for "telling" our tissues to stay robust. With age, there is a natural decline in hormone production and therefore signalling.

The same reason: Everything is harder to do as we age.... Skin loses its elasticity and wrinkles..... The same type of phenomena occurs with muscle...This is a simplistic answer...Keep in mind the body doesn't produce what is needed to keep the muscle mass as it did while younger i.E testosterone etc...
