Needs more tests: It also depends on age of patient, hpv presence , what precancerous cells degree minor dysplasia in young girl in absence of hpv neeeds observation only and repeat smear in 6 months if otherwise needs colposcopy and biopsy and further evaluation.

Need a colposcopy: Once you have an abnormal pap, the next step is to look carefully at the cervix under magnification (colposcopy) and take biopsies as needed to diagnose the abnormality. Sometimes the changes are minor and you just need to have more frequent paps to watch it. You could need treatment if it's more abnormal. Abnormal paps are common but cervical cancer is unlikely unless you ignore your abnormal pap.
