Drink more water: In the winter it is dry, also you must mouth breathe with the retainer. Have more water at night and put a glass next to your bed, so if you wake up dry, drink.

Throat: I would first see an ENT to rule out any apnea or allergy issues. Then i would have my orthodontist check my retainer to be sure it is functioning properly. I assume this is a new issue and not one that has been on going before the ortho. Let us know how it turns out.

Dry throat: Drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine and alcohol, use a humidifier in your bedroom at night during winter months when humidity is low.
