Yes: Chemoembolization has a role in the treatment of cancers. If there was never any improvement, this type of treatment would no longer be used. It is sometimes used in tumors of the liver.

Depending on cancer: Depends on cancer type. Hepatic chemoembolization is usually considered for hepatic cancer hcc that are not surgical candidates, to keep hcc at bay until transplant is performed , also indicated for colorectal metastasis and neuroendocrine metastasis. The goal is to kill the tumor in the liver before it consumes it, with some prolongation in survival and quality of life.

Definitely : Chemoembolization is proven to prolong survival. The importance of good targeting (Cone beam CT) can't be overstated! Making sure that the entire tumor is targeted & if suspected extrahepatic supply is interrogated will significantly impact the outcomes. Effectiveness of superselective chemoembo has better results in smaller nodules and combination therapy should be considered for larger lesions.
