Piles of trouble: Hemorrhoids may be thrombosed (clotted) and swollen and painful. They can also prolapse and extend out of the anal canal. Try sitting in a hot bath to relax the sphincter muscles. A visit to the doctor for anoscopy exam seems reasonable to rule out other conditions.
