A member asked:

Why does intracardiac right to left shunting occur? since the left side of heart has higher pressure, how can blood from right side flow through?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Shunt: Good observation....We see right to left shunting when the right sided pressure is higher than the left side and a connection is present between the circulations. This is when pulmonary hypertension is present. There are various causes of pulmonary hypertension including late changes in the lung from left to right shunting.
