The facts: Hiv-1 is a chimpanzee virus that jumped to infect humankind; hiv-2 is a monkey virus that did the same. They are hard to transmit person-to-person and it happens when body fluids are exchanged. Receptive anal intercourse is the most efficient, heterosexual intercourse less so, oral sex with semen even less but still possible; transfusions and needle sharing very risky.
