Ask dentist: If the chip is strictly in enamel, then probably not much other than possible abrasion of tissue, depending on which tooth is chipped. If dentin is exposed, then bacteria can get into the dentinal tubules and may go into the pulp (nerve) of the tooth, which could lead to an abscess. See your dentist and ask him this question.

Chipped tooth: A lot of patients have chipped teeth and choose to not do anything, but i always tell them that a small chip turns into a bigger chip and can lead to a fracture. Be cautious on biting into things. Jeff.

Exam: See your dentist to evaluate size, shape, location, adjacent micro fractures, proximity of fillings, occlusal relationships, etc. Your dentist can then give you an informed opinion.
