Tooth extractions: A general surgeon could technically and legally probably extract teeth, but i doubt any would want or try to as they have not been trained to do so. All professionals do what they have been trained to and feel comfortable and competent in doing. Some extractions are difficult even for trained and competent dentists.

Yes: A general surgeon or any physician can remove teeth, deliver babies and perform brain surgery. Even though they may be licensed to perform the procedures, you may want to see someone who has specific training in the different areas. Dentists receive more training and have more expertise in removal of teeth and should be your first choice in having teeth removed.

Shouldn't: Could they -- with the right instruments and a few pointers I suspect so. Should they - no, not trained. They are trained primarily in soft tissue/muscle surgery, not soft tissue / bony surgery. Also, different anatomical geography relating to nerves, muscles, etc. Stick with the specialists in this -- the Oral Surgeons. Good Luck.
