Premedication: Premedication starting a day before wisdom teeth extractions with a mild steroid (decadron) and an anti-inflammatory (motrin) will do wonders at keeping swelling and pain under control after the procedure. Review this with your treating dentist.

Get a consult 1st: Make sure you meet with an oral surgeon prior to any decisions you make. This will insure that you formulate the best plan of attack with the least amount of post-operative discomfort. Knowing ahead of time, whether 3rd molars require surgical methods, sedation, pre-op medications all weigh heavily into your ultimate success. If the teeth are not erupted then it will be a surgical extraction with a longer healing period. The extracting dentist will give you instruction. Follow these. Avoid smoking and strenuous physical activity following extraction. Eat soft diet.
